Downtown Denver, Red Rock, Lookout Mtn, Afternoon Tea

Arrived downtown to snow flurries with 1-3 feet forecasted in next 24 hours! Just like Geneva and Rochester, only at mile-high elevation, which we're still getting used to.  The Capitol Building is just four blocks from the hotel and there are lots of things to do within walking distance.

We took a tour bus to Red Rock, which was gorgeous with fresh snowfall, though visibility was poor. Our first view of the mountains since we arrived.  Ship Rock was near the entrance, so the driver took a photo of Don and me standing in wet, slushy snow.  Don prepared with his waterproof boots.  Pam might as well have been barefoot with her suede boots!

Blustery!  Don wanted to trek down to the amphitheater stadium, but only made it part way because the workers were shoveling the snow from the stairs.  Be safe at Disco Biscuit concert for those of you going, cuz the snow was still falling when we left.

Snow filled theater on left. Willie Nelson, one of many great artists who performed at the amphitheater,  holds special memories for Don and me as we danced our first dance as husband and wife to Willie singing, "Georgia."

The snow got heavier as we headed up into the mountains and the driver did a great job, thank goodness. We toured the Buffalo Bill Museum and visited his grave. We also went to Lookout Mountain and drove the Larriatt Loop.  Awesome views, riding along on the mountainside in the slushy snow made it a bit scary, too. Note the two feet of snow from the night before on the chairs.  We drank our cappacino inside!

Ride 'em cowboy! Ride 'em cowgirl!

When we got back to downtown Denver, we went for afternoon tea atA the Brown Palace Hotel, which opened in 1892.  What a beautiful, old building.  Our tea for two was fantastic and consisted of homemade scones with Devonshire cream/strawberry preserves, several different kinds of finger sandwiches, and desserts to die for. Yum! We enjoyed their serene, green organic tea served in traditional British fashion. We were absolutely stuffed and this is sure to be a highlight of the trip for Pam!
