Pier 39 and San Francisco waterfront

We were going to take an overview tour with Greyline tours but in the morning decided to screw that and do the tour on our own. Public transportation in San Fran is fantastic and easy to use.  We loaded our city cards for the bus and took a city trolley to the historic San Francisco treat cable car across the city to Pier 39 and spent the day.  Easy peasy. The video is of the trolley/cablecar turning around.

We took the trolley all the way down to Fisherman's Wharf.  Lots of activity on the waterfront including eating and shopping.  Just a short stroll to Pier 39 where the infamous sea lions reside.  They started to come to this area after an earthquake several years ago, and their numbers have grown from 5 or so at the beginning to over 1700 because the food was so good.  Eventually, SanFran sacrificed the pier 39 for their use.  It was fun to watch them vie for space on the dock/pier, making lots of noise.

Don at the ship museum in front of a fresnel lens, like the lens at the Tybee Lighthouse.

If only he were real...

And, here are the sea lions...

Forecast for tomorrow is warmer so maybe we'll be able to take some layers off!
