Ride to Topaz Mountain. We are staying in Millard County and had to drive to Juab County. Total one way trip 50 miles. 40 miles on a dirt road through the desert. It took us 2 hours and for the last hour we did not see anyone until we got to Topaz Mountain.
Our poor car. We drove really really really slow so as to not break our car on our first outing.
Topaz Mountain resident. We also caught a horny toad and saw other wildlife on the mountain. So quiet you can hear the wind. Absolutely no background noise other than breaking rocks by us.
Refacing a little portion of the mountain. Weather was clear as a bell and about 80 degrees. Glad we brought our hats. In Provo our hotel was right next to a Homeless Depot so I was able to get a bucket, hammer, and a bunch of chisels.
Looking down from where I was breaking rocks down to Pam who is rock hounding in the valley.
View looking back towards our hotel in Delta. We found a nice Days Inn and is centrally located to all of the rock hounding sites.
Cosmic Ray Center in Delta UT. Uses telescopes to locate cosmic rays
Fort Deseret on the way to Sunstone Knoll.
Sunstone Knoll. Day two on our poor car driving up dirt and rocky roads off the highway.
Pam collecting sunstones. Pam found the most and the biggest. Don had to dig a hole.
Don digging a hole and finding sunstones. It was 88 degrees on the mountain today and the flies were not nice. Glad for the hat and sunscreen. We ran out of water today so we left early so as to not become vulture bait.
Cattle crossing and railroad crossing going up to Sunstone Knoll
Our sunstone booty.
Topaz booty
Tomorrow going to look for Obsidian. 80 mile trip.
